THRIPLOW PEAT HOLES
Peat–holes, Triplow, WW Newbould, 5.7.1856, CGE.
Triplow bogs. Bab.ann.Relhan,11.
This lovely flower grew in this parish in abundance, but since the drainage and enclosure of the commons the plant has become extinct. My Father used to gather it near the beautiful stream of water on what is called Triplow Common near Nine Wells, very near the spot [shown on the sketch p.301]. In his herbarium are specimens gathered from that place by him in July 1849. I have looked for it repeatedly since that time but have never found it here. It still grows in another of its favourite haunts, Sawston Moore, where I have gathered it as recently as 1862,... on wet and boggy places, such as abounded in the neighbourhood of Triplow Common...Maynard MS.13:302,CRO.
