Thelypteris palustris Schott (Thelypteris thelypteroides Michx. subsp. glabra Holub).
Conservation status:N
First record: Relhan, 1802
Under Oreopteris limbosperma: Relhan states that it grew by the footpath to the mill, on both sides of the way, at Fulbourn; and on Fulbourn and Teversham Moors. It is probable that these plants were the true L. thelypteris, although he latterly placed them under L. oreopteris in his Flora. Dent's original mistake in quoting (although with doubt) the F. minor non ramosa of Bauhin (which is L. thelypteris) as synonymous with his F. palustris seu aquatica has caused much confusion. Bab.1860,291. Bab.MS.Fl.934.
Relhan's record of Polypodium thelypteris (1802) from near Fulbourn, and on Fulbourn and Teversham Moors, was presumably this species. In his ed. 3 (1820), Relhan refers this plant to Aspidium oreopteris, but Babington (in notes) states that this is incorrect, and that a specimen from Fulbourn in the Relhan herbarium is T. palustris. It was found at West Fen, Ely, by W Marshall in the first half of the nineteenth century, by SW Wanton at Wicken Fen in 1850, and later at the Wimblington Fire Lots by Fryer. It is now known only at Dernford Fen where it is very local and Wicken Fen where it is abundant. Flora, 1964.
