This was the Mentha viridis of Smith which is figured in the English Botany vol.34, pl.2424. This species of Mentha approaches very near to the Horse-mint (M. sylvestris) but differs essentially in being perfectly glabrous & free from all manner of pubescence ....I believe the Mentha viridis is the species that is generally cultivated for culinary purposes so that possibly those we found may have escaped originally from some neighbouring garden, & not be indigenous in the county,...Jenyns,JNH,18.8.1825.
